Madden ‘10 predicts 2009 Season

IGN performed their annual “Madden Predicts Season” post this past week with some interesting results. The division winners for the AFC were mostly predictable — Steelers (15-1 .. ?!), Patriots (11-5), Colts (11-5), Chargers (9-7). The Ravens and Titans grabbed the two wild card spots. On the NFC side of things, we have the Packers taking the north with a losing record (7 – 9 … are you serious?), Saints (13-3), Redskins (13-3), and the Cardinals (12-4). The Falcons and Eagles slipped into the playoffs with the wild card.

IGN wrapped up the playoffs with a host of new video clips of the games, including the Colts @ Patriots in a messy New England AFC Championship game.

I won’t ruin the results of this game or the Super Bowl, which featured the Saints.

Ryan July 30, 2009 at 8:46 pm: I did not watch the clip, but I am going to go ahead and assume that the pats won. This is how every sim goes in Madden. They have a full on bromance for the Pats. I get how team rankings are derived from the overall rating of 24 or so starters, but how can teams who finished out of the playoffs still be ranked in the top 5 or 10 teams? The Pats are the best team in the NFL according to Madden, and that very well may be true. But they still finished out of the playoffs last year and are ranked above every single team that made the playoffs. I have done my best on this blog to defend the Madden team for their rankings, but this just does not make sense to me. If anyone can explain to me why the Pats and Cowboys are ranked in the top 10 after missing the playoffs I would like to hear it. The Madden team did a good job of rating players and teams as a whole, but potential talent and hype should not factor into the game. Sorry Mike, the Pats are good, but not 93 good.

Ray Nichols August 11, 2009 at 4:46 pm: Yeah, it's because without Brady last year is the only reason they missed the playoffs. Remember they still had a really good record at the finish of last year. Now they've improved their secondary ten fold, their linbacking unit is a lot better going into this season then last years unit. Brady is back! No other team made any drastic changes over the off season. I think the Pats won 10 or 11 games last year, and then you add a hall of fame QB to the mix. There record will be far better then the 12-4 the madden simulated. I'm almost willing to believe they may come close to the 18 win mark again this season.
